The Glaciers Are Melting

The Glaciers are melting, The Glaciers are melting. This weeks Time Magazine had a full page picture of a glacier, click to enlarge, that has now obviously just about disappeared since it was first photographed in 1932. The journalists at Time captioned the photo with the words "a man-made disaster". The article was followed by an interview with NASA alarmists scientist James Hansen. We have been shown the same before and after pictures of glaciers around the world. Most of us know that even the glaciers in Glacier National Park have severely diminished.

We have been repeatedly told that because the glacier retreat correlates with mans increased use of fossil fool that this is obvious evidence that man has caused the glacier retreat. It is fascinating that Time refers to these glaciers as proof of man-made global warming and then follows with an interview of one of the greatest Alarmists crackpots in our midst. Their intent with the picture is to SCARE you and then give credibility to the Hansen interview.

The truth is actually the opposite of what the Scaremongers force us to "believe". With just a little thought and study you can easily prove that the glacial retreat is actually proof that man likely has absolutely nothing to do with glacial retreat. Why? Because the brilliant scientists who are now gathered in Dopenhagen only blame BadMan for warming the globe since the mid-70's, yet undoubtedly glaciers have been melting at a mostly steady pace since about 1850, when many glaciers were at their maximum size during the depth of the Little Ice Age. Worldwide measurements of glaciers only began about 60 years ago around 1950. Before that, there are only "sketchy" records of select glaciers which began in the mid 1800's. But, archeologists have know the climate has gone through long periods of variability throughout the history of planet earth. A couple hundred years before the Little Ice Age there was a period termed the MediEvil Warming which lasted a couple hundred years between 1000 AD and 1400AD. Before the MediEvil Warming began about 1000AD there was another cold period which was again preceded by yet another warming period referred to as the Roman Warming which lasted from 200 to 600 AD. And that period was again preceeded by yet another cooling period.

Glaciers are thought to be able to be used as a proxy for climate change. It would seem so easy to look at the easily measured decreasing or advancing terminus of a glacier and use that information to determine whether that particular location was generally warming or cooling in average temperature. You would think, wouldn't you. But it is not so easy. Here is an article which found a close correlation to amount of sunlight (opposite of cloud cover) to glacier growth/melt.

Mt. Kilimanjaro's glacier has also lost a dramatic amount of mass and was used in AlGore's sci fi fantasy film as an example of dangerous global warming. Yet, the reality is that the temperature never gets above freezing on the Mt. Kilimanjaro glacier, so how could global warming be causing the melt when ice doesn't melt below 32F? Real Scientists know the glacial retreat on Mt. Kilimanjaro is from lack of moisture caused by deforestation combined with sublimation, or evaporation of ice caused by the sun! So in reality, just a little digging shows yet one more way we have been misled and scared into climate submission. This article reviews the MANY studies which prove that the Mt. Kilimanjaro glaciers is not shrinking because of global warming but because of decreased snowfall. Most of the glacier loss ocurred prior to 1953, yet man is blamed for global warming only since the mid 1970's. Here is a quote from the climategate emails, "most researchers in global change research would agree that the emergence of a clear greenhouse forcing signal has really only occurred since after 1970." Realize that from 1940 to 1970 there was a period global cooling. And prior to 1940 man's CO2 emissions were very small compared to the last 30 years. This chart is very important in understanding man-made CO2. Here is more on Mt. Kilimanjaro. So AlGore gets both an Emmy and an Oscar for a film that is almost all "junk science". What has this world come to???

Glaciers have been melting around the world since about 1850. Here is a summary of a detailed report on Himalayan glaciers. On page 44 of that report it states, "Glaciers in the Himalayas (India) have been exhibiting a continuous secular retreat since the earliest recording began around the middle of the nineteenth century(1850)".

What about Glacier National Park? Here is a scientific paper which shows that GNP has been in a period of drought for the past 150 years which has caused extensive loss of glacial ice. On page 10 of that report it states, "persistent shifts in moisture regimes related to decadal and multidecadal climate variability are a major driver of landscape changes in Glacier NP". I know some of you will say, but AlGore says that global warming will cause both droughts and floods. Sure, global warming will simply cause all of the worlds ills unless we pay for our sins. Most people don't know that the IPCC UN climate scientists predict the runaway global warming to occur because the warming atmosphere will cause more evaporation from the oceans which in turn will lead to more water vapor. This is the mechanism that will cause more disasterous floods like hurrican Katrina. Yet Katrina was only a category 3 that happened to hit a city that should have never been built there in the first place. How could there be more water vapor, ie precipitation>floods, yet more droughts? I am sure THEY have an answer!

The best source of glacier information can be found here. Accept that glaciers have been reliably measured only since about 1950. Sketchy historical records show that most have been melting since 1850. Yet, the UN Dopenhagen Climategate "scare experts" only blame man for warming since the last warming trend kicked in during the mid 1970's. And global warming stopped in 1998, almost 12 years ago. Has anyone ever told you all of this on TV? No, instead we get complete propoganda quack scare journalism with the likes of NBC Today Show sending Ann Curry on a failed, dangerous attempt to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro to highlight the dangers of climate change. With dozens of research assistants at NBC, do you think anyone even cared that Mt. Kilimanjaro is not melting because of global warming but because of lack of moisture which is thought to be from deforestation of the mountain slopes. This is science as it stands today!!!

Here is my favorite glacier slide which is extremely insightful, click picture to read. We have been told the glaciers are retreating, something is wrong, Man is Bad! The tree stumps to the left grew 3,000 years ago during a warming period. Then an enormous glacier formed and carried the tree trunks away leaving these stumps. The glacial retreat the past 150 years uncovered these 3,000 year old stumps which are just yet another piece of evidence that our climate today is not unusual or abnormal when taken in the the context of long period of geological time. This past summer was one of the coldest in Pennsylvania and New York during the past century, but we can't use the summer of 2009 as evidence that we are descending into another ice ago. Our cold May-July was just another example of the extreme variability that the climate exhibits over a short period of time.

If you want to read a fascinating account of the cyclical nature of our climate I highly recommend obtaining the books, The Little Ice Age and The Great Warming, which are in depth historical and archeological accounts of our changing weather during the past century. They can be bought used on Amazon for less than 10 dollars delivered. Every one of these pages disproves the modern theory of man-made warming, because it is quite obvious the climate has ALWAYS been changing in a periodic fashion. AND - the MediEvil warming, which the scientists? tried to erase with their quack tree ring studies, is well referenced by historical and archeological fact, not squiggly lines on a paper drawn from some computer program. Of course Michael Mann the tree ring expert states his dog ate his data and that's why he can't release it! No matter, just keep believing!

To me, the glacial melt is the best proof that man is not causing global warming. Glacial melt is the best proof of the scientific dishonesty and media hype that we are constantly pummeled with on a daily basis. Yes, I'm proud to be a skeptic!

A little off topic but in regards to the Mt. Kilimanjaro moisture factor. I know many of you will say, but Africa is drying up because of global warming. That is why the Africans are now in Dopenhagen, they are lobbying for the money we owe them because we used fossil fuel to make ourselves rich. Now we have a debt to pay!!! To the left is a graph showing that "once again the evidence refutes the hysterical hype". Is there a drough in Africa right now? Surprise, I've been watching picture of African droughts all of my life!

Want to know about the hysterical polar bear claims? The petition to place the polar bear on the endangered species list is based solely on climate models, while the polar population continues to do just fine. The same crystal ball mumbo jumbo that we heard about Tech stocks, second mortgages, home values and add Iraq weapons of mass destruction in there for good measure!

One more point for those who may be new to global warming science. Certainly don't trust Wikipedia for your final word. Wikipedia is base on the "consensus" view. The consensus for glacial melt is that glaciers are melting because of your big screen TV and your automobile, the science be damned!

You may have heard about the "trick" that the climate scientists used to scare us into thinking that the current temperature are unprecedented and abnormal.
